These are special insoles, which are designed to work with the foot in order to improve muscular efficiency and structural alignment throughout the whole lower limb thereby reducing pain and strain. The medial arch of the foot is maintained by the way that the bones move and lock against one another, and it is a dynamic structure. The joints are held in place by ligaments, and moved by the action of muscles. Muscular action is not the prime factor in maintaining the arch and therefore wearing orthoses will not cause the foot to become ‘lazy’.

If you require orthoses as part of your treatment plan, one temporary pair will be provided free of charge . Sports and other functional devices are custom-made by taking casts of the feet, which are then sent to a specialist laboratory with a prescription. The various materials (thermoplastics/ carbon-fibre) are moulded to this cast and then balanced to the specifications requested.
